Husker Offense MIA

Saturday, September 17th, 2005

Wow. Nebraska really dodged the bullet today. The offense seemed to move the ball a little better today, but still couldn’t put many points up on the board. I think the main reason the offense looked better was that Pitt’s defense is bad because the offense is still making way too many mistakes. It is really embarrassing to get 5+ illegal formation penalties, especially this far into the season. One bright spot was that we had a semblance of a running game this week, and we even able to convert a 3rd & 1 for a change. The offense actually did outscore the defense today, but they are going to have to play much better when they play Iowa State in two weeks.

Blackshirts A-Wake

The Blackshirts are for real. It really helps when a defense is able to score three touchdowns in a game. It would be nice if Nebraska had an offense to go along with their much improved defense, but the defense may give them time to improve. The effort of the defense reminded me a lot of the 03 defense that forced 47 turnovers. The offense did look good for one drive in the second half, and I thought that maybe they were turning the corner, but after that drive, they returned to their normal pathetic state. I’ll take the two wins so far, but eventually the offense is going to have to outscore the defense.

Huskers not quite back

Saturday, September 3rd, 2005

Well, we did get the W, but I was not impressed with beating a I-AA school 25-7. My original prediction was that we would go 8-3 this season, maybe 9-2, but after the performance today, I am thinking that 7-4 is much more likely.

It’s hard to get a gauge on the team when they played a I-AA school, but the defense looks much improved. The offense however, leaves a lot to be desired. I was really surprised to see how poorly the offensive line played today, and I am not looking forward to playing teams that actually have a decent defensive line.

Nebraska still has a lot to improve, but with both Wake Forest and Pittsburg losing this week, we might have enough time to fix some of the major issues.
